{"id":154,"date":"2012-01-24T11:37:06","date_gmt":"2012-01-24T11:37:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.oneworldcharitychallenge.com\/?page_id=154"},"modified":"2023-09-18T20:05:25","modified_gmt":"2023-09-18T20:05:25","slug":"154-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.oneworldcharitychallenge.com\/?page_id=154","title":{"rendered":"The Presentation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Before you begin to create your presentation, have a look at the <strong>judging criteria<\/strong> so that you know what you need to include. \u00a0While putting the presentation together consider the points below:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>How do you keep the presentation interesting?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>vary the types of presentation style, including a range of different approaches :&#8230;. power point, slides and information&#8230; a personalised eye witness report, a story: an interview<\/li>\n<li>use short sound bites,\u00a0 visuals,\u00a0 music, interviews<\/li>\n<li>Have\u00a0 a definite introduction,\u00a0 central content,\u00a0 and conclusion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Introductions \/ How to begin \u2026. Building confidence<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First impressions \u2026. What do you wear as a team?<\/li>\n<li>How formal do you want your presentation to be, style, branding?<\/li>\n<li>Entrance: dramatically or casually?<\/li>\n<li>Positive or negative imagery?<\/li>\n<li>Do you want to shock people to make them wake up, or gently introduce them to what you\u2019re going to say?<\/li>\n<li>Introductory imagery and music giving an overview of the country?<\/li>\n<li>Cultural music, or contemporary music that has a message?<\/li>\n<li>Opposites \u2026Development statistics over positive images?<\/li>\n<li>Voice over images , stating hard facts?<\/li>\n<li>Dramatic silence \u2026. Head lines, stark, silent shocking<\/li>\n<li>Or positive; spelling out the new advantages\u00a0 as a result of the charity<\/li>\n<li>Introducing yourselves, or the people concerned with the project?<\/li>\n<li>Introducing the charity or your representative young person?<\/li>\n<li>Do you include cultural artefacts, costume<\/li>\n<li>Do you spell out right from the start why you chose your charity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The content \/ how do you keep that middle bit interesting ?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A change of style of presentation from the introduction?<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s got to be more than just facts.<\/li>\n<li>Do you cut the music, or introduce a different style of music, a different presenter? A different pace \/ a story? \u00a0What elements of drama can you introduce?<\/li>\n<li>How do you introduce your charity? Through their logo? Their strap line? Through a mock interview with an aid worker? Through the eyes of a village person?<\/li>\n<li>How much information do you need before it becomes a shopping list?!<\/li>\n<li>How do you use video clips creatively?<\/li>\n<li>How do you <em>clearly identify<\/em> the work and achievements of the charity?<\/li>\n<li>How do you link it all to the Sustainable Development Goals?<\/li>\n<li>How do you introduce the young person? Find images that could be that person&#8217;s \u201cfamily\u201d, village, school.<\/li>\n<li>Could you read something they have \u201cwritten\u201d\u00a0 either to you, or thanking the charity \u2026.<\/li>\n<li>Or could it all be seen through the eyes of a tourist visiting that area who tells of their experiences, a dialogue ? \u2026or through the eyes of a volunteer who was working on the project<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Conclusion\/ How do you finish it with impact?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sometimes it helps to think of the ending before you do the beginning. How are you hoping to sum this up?<\/li>\n<li>Do you want it to be a positive ending\/ or open ended \u2026..\u00a0 that there is still more work to do out there!<\/li>\n<li>Are you going to find imagery that helps you wind it up? Sunset\/\u00a0 laughing children\/ Successful image of the project?<\/li>\n<li>What is the last bit of information you want to leave your audience with? How do you reiterate the important information?<\/li>\n<li>Do you have concluding music that will mean you don\u2019t leave the stage in silence\u2026.what sort of mood do you want that music to leave behind?<\/li>\n<li>Do you want to finish by reiterating your beginning?<\/li>\n<li>Do you state very clearly here why you chose this charity?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Practicalities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Put the whole presentation together in draft form before you start finalising anything<\/li>\n<li>Write all the script before you start researching any images. ( four pages of A4 in Comic Sans size 14 takes about 10 min to read).<\/li>\n<li>Finish at least two weeks in advance of your in-school deadline and run through it a number of times so that you know your timing and that the technology work.<\/li>\n<li>The presentation has to be available on a memory stick for the final at the\u00a0Mountain View Innovation Centre.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t try to get\u00a0 all your presentation on a timed power point.<\/li>\n<li>Edit it if it runs over the 10 minute mark.<\/li>\n<li>Practice using the mic before the night.<\/li>\n<li>If you need a script, do you have prompt cards or do you need a lectern? Try not to read everything from cards &#8211; use bullet points or prompt words to remind you what you want to say.<\/li>\n<li>Try videoing yourselves doing the presentation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>NB&#8230;. be careful not to paint too negative a picture .
